Bio
Throughout Helge’s childhood and youth growing up in Europe, she always loved working creatively with her hands. Her first professional choice, however, was to become a physician. After medical school, she moved with her husband and two children to the United States where she was drawn back to her love for art, obtaining a teaching degree in art from California State University. While teaching art full time in New Jersey for 25 years and during subsequent retirement, Helge expanded her expertise in clay, fiber and metal. Presently, she is a Master Artisan at the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and Professional Artist Member at the Main Line Art Center. She has received numerous awards from the Perkins Center for the Arts, the Main Line Art Center and the Jenkintown Art Fest. In addition, one of Helge’s ceramic pieces and a fiber wall hanging are permanently displayed at Rowan University.. Helge was juried into the International Exhibitions, Ceramic Innovations and Craft Forms at the Wayne Art Center, and participated in Crafting Contexts at City Hall in 2017.
