Bio
Christiane was born and raised in Brussels, Belgium, where she began painting when she was eight years old. Her father was a painter and her family surrounded her with other forms of art such as music, antiques and literature. In addition, her grandfather was a chef so presentation was an important artistic element to this family. Christiane studied architecture, pursued a career in interior design and eventually turned to painting. She studied watercolor and oil painting at the Academy of Art in Brussels where she studied under disciples of Belgian painters Paul Delvaux and Rene Magritte. Through her studies and contact with fellow European impressionists, Christiane absorbed many of the attitudes and techniques that provide the foundation for her definitive style. As an abstract impressionist, she strives to capture moments in time, emphasizes color over subject and continually experiments with content, method, technique and style. Christiane moved to the United States in 1985 with her husband and daughter and became an active member in the local arts community. She is a member and past president of the Berks Art Alliance. She is also an associate member of Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society. Inc. and the Art Students League of New York. Christiane continues to participate in regional art exhibitions. She has won numerous awards and acquired an extensive, international collectorship. She owns and operates her own Christiane David Gallery in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
